Tolmajyan hurt
Kim with a left uppercut to the head in the
second round. Referee Ray Corona looked as
though he was about to step in and stop the
bout a few times, but allowed the action to
continue.
Tolmajyan fired a two-punch combination that
badly wobbled Kim, prompting Corona to halt
the bout at 1:46 of the round.
Tolmajyan, from
Glendale, Calif., by way of Yerevan,
Armenia, improves to 5-1, 2 KO. Kim, from
Sacramento, Calif., falls to 2-3.
HyeFighters
welterweight Vardan Gasparyan (11-1-4, 5
KOs) Welterweight Vardan Gasparyan won a
hard-fought six-round unanimous decision
over upset-minded Octavio Narvaez.
Narvaez was
coming a hard-fought stoppage loss at the
hands of former world champion Vivian
Harris. Narvaez was able to score a
knockdown over Harris and was hoping to
defeat Gasparyan.
Gasparyan had
the height and reach advantage, as well as
strength over Narvaez. However, it did not
deter Narvaez from attempting to work on the
inside of Gasparyan. Narvaez pressed forward
and was able to sneak counter left hook and
right hands to the head of Gasparyan.
However,
Gasparyan controlled most of the action in
the fight. He was able to land the more
effective punches. Gasparyan also boxed from
the outside, giving himself some room to
throw his punches over his opponent. Despite
showing heart, Narvaez slowed down while
Gasparyan was the fresher fighter who
finished strong until the final bell.
All three judges
scored the bout 59-55, 59-55, and 60-54 in
favor of Gasparyan.
Gasparyan, from
Glendale, Calif., by way of Yerevan,
Armenia, improves to 11-1-4, 5 KOs. Narvaez,
from West Covina, Calif., by way of
Chinandega, Nicaragua, drops to 7-6-1, 4
KOs.

Unanimous
decision for HyeFighter Kentikian!
WBA and WIBF
flyweight world champion Susianna Kentikian
successfully defended her belts against
experienced Russian Anastasia Toktaulova at
the Sporthalle Brandberge in Halle an der
Saale, Germany.
However, it
wasn't a easy night for the "Killer Queen".
Toktaulova kept the distance from the get
go, using her great ring generalship. The
21-years old champion was more aggressive
and scored with fast flurries. However, for
the first half, both fighters had problems
finding their target. Around the fifth, both
engaged in more inside action. First, it was
Toktaulova who had a good fifth round as she
landed a couple of straight rights.
Kentikian came back good, pressing the
action and landing better on the inside. She
landed the best punch of the night, a left
uppercut, in round eight. The final rounds
were action packed, as both tried to make
their mark. Kentikian was more effective,
landing more punches. After ten rounds, the
"Killer Queen" deserved the nod. And got it
from the judges. Scores were 98-92, 99-92
and 99-91.
It was a
workman-like victory for Kentikian, who
stays unbeaten at 23-0. Toktaulova had some
success with her ring generalship and right
straights but took more shots from the more
aggressive champion. Kentikian proved to be
a good technician aside from being an
excellent brawler. It was a good victory for
the champion. Toktaulova falls to 13-10, a
record that doesn't resemble her boxing
skills.

Christmas market in Hamburg ... with sweets
and hot chocolates everywhere!
Susi
Kentikian (21) visited the historical
Christmas market in Hamburg today. Although
she has a tight schedule to keep up with and
a tough preparation for her upcoming fight
on December 5 in Halle/Saale, the flyweight
world champion of the spotlight boxing-Team
took time to make a little shopping trip to
the Christmas market. Her companion:
heavyweight world champ Ruslan Chagaev.
"The
pre-Christmas period isn't worse than before
as I always eat some sweets so I'm in a good
mood. If you normally follow your nutrition
plans and only make a few exceptions,
nothing can go wrong if you're eating
sweets," Kentikian stated when passing the
stands on the market. Susi is known for her
passion for sweets.
She will
find some time to buy Christmas presents
only after her world title bout and look
forward to the Christmas holidays. "I always
spend Christmas with my family. I'm so
excited. Christmas is for me and my family
like pure relaxation! But for know my focus
is only on my fight against Anastasia
Toktaulova. Today's visit is just an
exception," Susi said while sipping on her
hot chocolate.
